What’s the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan?

The Medicare Prescription Payment Plan is a new payment option in the prescription drug law that works with your current drug coverage to help you manage your out-of-pocket costs for drugs covered by your plan by spreading them across the calendar year (January–December).

Starting in 2025, anyone with a Medicare drug plan or Medicare health plan with drug coverage (like a Medicare Advantage Plan with drug coverage) can use this payment option.

All plans offer this payment option, and participation is voluntary.

This payment option might help you manage your monthly expenses, but it doesn’t save you money or lower your drug costs.

CareSouth Carolina administering COVID-19 vaccines to ages 5-11

Beginning Monday, November 8, CareSouth Carolina will be administering the COVID-19 vaccine to ages 5-11 at select offices.

CareSouth Carolina was already previously administering the COVID-19 vaccine to ages 12 & up. Now, if parents want to schedule an appointment for their child ages 5-17 to be vaccinated, they will be able to do so at CareSouth Carolina’s Bennettsville Pediatric Center, Hartsville Pediatric Center, Bishopville Center or Latta Center.

Currently, the Pfizer-BioNTech is the only vaccine authorized for ages 5-17. The vaccine is available at no cost and you do not have to be a patient of CareSouth Carolina to schedule an appointment. Children ages 15 and under need a parental consent.

Here’s a few facts from the CDC on the COVID-19 vaccine:

  • The vaccine is effective with 90-100% efficacy in clinical trials. The vaccine works against the Delta variant and other known variants of concern.
  • Symptoms are mostly mild-to-moderate.
  • Myocarditis is rare with the expectation of 26 cases per 1 million doses administered.
  • Long term side effects, like infertility, are highly unlikely
  • Previously recovered still need the vaccine. Getting a vaccine, even for people who have already recovered from COVID-19, strengthens your immune response (antibody and T-cell protection)

If you’d like to schedule an appointment for a child to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, please call our Bennettsville Pediatric Center (843.479.1200), Hartsville Pediatric Center (843.332.3422), Latta Center (843.627.6252) or Bishopville Center (803.484.5317).
