CHESTERFIELD— CareSouth Carolina is pleased to announce the addition of Cynthia Griffin, a licensed professional counselor, to its school-based counseling team. With her extensive experience in counseling and dedication to improving the well-being of children and families, Cynthia brings a wealth of expertise to the community.
Griffin holds a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling from Liberty University, she also earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Liberty University. As a South Carolina Licensed Professional Counselor, Cynthia will provide school-based services to several local schools in the community.
“It was an easy decision for me,” Griffin said. “I have always enjoyed working with young people. They go through a lot of different stages in life and being able to help them as they are progressing through is something that I have a real passion for. Kids help make me stay young.”
With more than 10 years of counseling experience, Griffin has made a significant impact in the mental health field. She has previously served at Tri-County Community Mental Health Center (SCDMH) in Chesterfield County Schools, providing clinical services to children and families through a school-based collaborative approach.
Her utilization of evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), and play therapy has been instrumental in helping individuals heal and thrive.
Griffin has also served as a counselor in several other capacities, including Pee Dee Mental Health Center (SCDMH) – Durant Children Center and Kershaw Counseling, LLC. She has also volunteered as a Rape Crisis Counselor for Safe Alliance in Monroe, NC.
“She comes to us with a profound background in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Child First Forensic Interviewing skills, and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Therapy, along with many other skills,” CareSouth Carolina Director of Behavioral Health Amy Cook, LISW-CP/S said. “We are very excited to have Cynthia join our team.”
As a part of CareSouth Carolina, Griffin will continue to make a positive impact in the lives of families in Chesterfield County through school-based care.
“During my time, I’ve learned that a lot of the anxiety and ADHD in kids also comes with trauma,” Griffin said. “These are schools that I’ve been at in a certain capacity for a while and now I get to go back to them, this time with CareSouth Carolina, and am looking forward to being a part of this organization and continuing to work to help children in our area flourish.”
Outside of work, Griffin most enjoys spending time with her family. She has been married to her husband for 33 years and has two children, as well as two grandkids and one more on the way. In addition, she enjoys reading, spending time with her friends, and being outdoors.
